Jeremy Renner, known for his role as Hawkeye in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, expressed his surprise and frustration towards Robert Downey Jr. for not informing him about his return to the MCU. Robert Downey Jr.’s announcement as Dr. Doom, the new antagonist in the Avengers series, at San Diego Comic-Con last month stunned many, including his former Avengers co-stars. In an interview with US Weekly, Jeremy Renner shared that he was upset with Robert for keeping his new MCU role a secret.

Upon discovering that Robert would be playing Dr. Doom instead of Iron Man in the upcoming Avengers movies, Jeremy admitted to “blowing up” their Avengers WhatsApp group chat with questions like “What’s happening?” and “Were you hiding this from us?” The chat includes other Avengers actors such as Chris Evans (Captain America), Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow), and Mark Ruffalo (The Hulk).

Jeremy confessed he was unaware of Robert’s casting or his plans to return to the MCU but expressed excitement for his new role. He humorously called Robert a “son of a b*tch” for keeping the news from his friends.

Jeremy commented on the upcoming Avengers movies, saying, “The Avengers films are always fan favorites with so many great characters. It will be challenging to coordinate everyone’s schedules. We’ll probably have to piece it together week by week.” He expressed his enthusiasm for the new films and mentioned that the announcement just happened, so they need to start planning. Jeremy’s last appearance as Hawkeye was in the 2021 Disney+ Hotstar series “Hawkeye,” where he passed the mantle to Hailee Steinfeld’s Kate Bishop.

“Avengers: Doomsday” is set to hit theaters on May 1, 2026, and “Avengers: Secret Wars” will follow on May 7, 2027. Both films will be directed by the Russo Brothers, who previously directed “Infinity War” and “Endgame”.
