Seven time Grammy Award winner John Mayer finally made his much anticipated India debut as he performed live at Mumbai’s Mahalaxmi Race Course drawing massive cheers from fans who had waited weeks for the moment.
Taking the stage on Wednesday night Mayer delivered an emotionally rich performance blending soulful guitar work with candid conversations. Addressing the audience he acknowledged the delay of the concert which was originally scheduled for January 22 and postponed due to unforeseen circumstances. Thanking fans for their patience he expressed his love for the city and appreciation for those who returned despite the reschedule.
The evening took a playful turn when Mayer surprised the crowd with a humorous compliment directed at Mumbai’s men. Praising their hairstyles and confidence he joked about feeling outshined prompting loud cheers laughter and whistles from the audience. The night began with opening performances by Nagaland based folk musician Abdon Mech who showcased tracks like Aria and Taking My Heart followed by indie artiste Tejas who performed crowd favourites including Kiss From A Rose and Ruby.
