Messi Becomes Inter Miami’s Record Goal Contributor with Sensational Volley in 1-1 Toronto Stalemate

At 37 years old, Lionel Messi continues to defy age and expectations by rewriting football history. On Sunday, the legendary forward scored a jaw-dropping volley during Inter Miami’s 1-1 draw against Toronto FC in a Major League Soccer clash. Despite Messi’s moment of magic deep into first-half stoppage time, Inter Miami couldn’t turn the tide to secure a victory.

Messi’s goal not only brought Inter Miami level in the match but also etched his name deeper into club history, making him the all-time leader in goal contributions (44) for Inter Miami in MLS, overtaking former teammate Gonzalo Higuaín. Remarkably, Messi achieved this milestone in just 29 appearances, showcasing his unmatched impact since joining the club.

Earlier in the match, Messi nearly scored in the 39th minute, but VAR ruled his effort out due to a foul on Toronto defender Nicksoen Gomis. However, he made amends just minutes later, striking home a precise low volley in the 45+5th minute, assisted by Telasco Segovia, who found him in space just outside the penalty box. Messi’s clinical finish left Toronto goalkeeper Sean Johnson with no chance.

Toronto FC had taken the lead earlier through Federico Bernardeschi, who danced through Miami’s defense and slotted the ball past Drake Callender with ease. Despite Messi’s best efforts in the second half—creating chances and pushing forward—Inter Miami lacked the support to convert opportunities into goals.

Speaking after the match, Inter Miami coach Javier Mascherano admitted frustration but remained focused on upcoming challenges. “We lost control for about 10-15 minutes in the first half and they took advantage. After that we came back stronger. Toronto may be lower in the standings, but they’re a quality side with serious attacking threats. We now shift focus to our next game on Wednesday,” Mascherano stated.

As Inter Miami continues its MLS journey, Messi remains the heartbeat of the squad, consistently producing world-class moments and raising the bar for the league.
