Casting for the lead role along with supporting characters is expected to begin later this year, while filming is planned to start next year. The project aims to reintroduce the timeless character to a modern audience through a visually engaging and emotionally meaningful storytelling approach.
Director Kirk Jones, known for films such as Nanny McPhee and Waking Ned, has expressed a deep personal connection to the story. He highlighted that the film will blend adventure with themes of kindness compassion and problem solving, as Mr Benn journeys across different time periods and imaginative settings.
The family of David McKee has also shared their enthusiasm for the project, noting that bringing Mr Benn to the big screen was a long held dream of the author. They expressed excitement about the film finally moving forward with a strong creative team in place.
