Macaulay Culkin, the beloved actor who turned Kevin McCallister into a global icon, has revealed he’s open to stepping back into the role for a new Home Alone sequel — if the concept feels meaningful and well-crafted. Speaking during his live tour A Nostalgic Night with Macaulay Culkin, the actor shared that while he’s cautious about revisiting the franchise, he wouldn’t reject the opportunity entirely. Culkin admitted, “I wouldn’t be completely allergic to it. It just has to be the right thing.”
The actor also shared a surprise — he already has an idea mapped out for a modern twist on Kevin’s story. In Culkin’s imagined version, Kevin is now older, possibly a single father, juggling work and parenthood. The emotional tension begins when Kevin’s son, upset by his father’s lack of attention, locks Kevin out of their home and sets up traps — mirroring what Kevin once famously did as a child. Culkin explained that the house in this story acts as a symbolic element for their strained relationship, with the plot following Kevin’s attempt to rebuild a connection and earn his way back into his son’s heart.
Culkin’s musings reignited nostalgia for the original Home Alone films that turned him into one of the biggest child stars of the early ’90s. The first two movies remain Christmas classics, defining the franchise’s legacy. Director Chris Columbus, however, has long stated that the original films captured a moment that can’t truly be recreated. Despite later sequels and Disney’s 2021 reboot Home Sweet Home Alone, none matched the original charm or impact.
For now, Culkin’s openness to a return leaves fans excited — even if the sequel remains only an idea. His willingness, paired with a heartfelt storyline, offers renewed hope that Kevin McCallister’s journey might one day continue in a meaningful, character-driven way.
