Major Upgrade to Dubai’s Al Mustaqbal Street to Slash Travel Time by More Than 50 Percent

Dubai’s Al Mustaqbal Street is undergoing a Dhs633 million upgrade including new tunnels bridges and lane expansions to cut travel time by over 50 percent and ease congestion.

Dubai’s Al Mustaqbal Street, a vital route running parallel to Sheikh Zayed Road and leading to DIFC, is set for a significant transformation with a Dhs633 million redevelopment project by the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA). This major infrastructure enhancement aims to reduce congestion and improve traffic flow, dramatically cutting travel times along the corridor.

The redevelopment includes the construction of new bridges and tunnels stretching over 1,700 metres, alongside the widening of the street from three to four lanes. These improvements will boost traffic capacity by 33 percent per hour, reducing the average travel time on Al Mustaqbal Street from 13 minutes to just six minutes.

Key features of the project include a three-lane tunnel heading towards Deira with a capacity for 4,500 vehicles per hour, a two-lane tunnel for left turns onto Trade Centre Street, and a single-lane tunnel serving the One Central development. Additionally, a 450-metre two-lane bridge will connect traffic from the Dubai World Trade Centre to Za’abeel Palace Street and Al Mustaqbal Street.

To further enhance accessibility, the project will introduce new pedestrian pathways, cycling tracks, and urban spaces designed to benefit all road users. The initiative is part of a larger plan that also involves the Trade Centre Roundabout, a key junction linking Sheikh Zayed Road with five major arterial roads.

His Excellency Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors at Dubai’s RTA, highlighted the project’s strategic importance. He emphasized its role in serving major commercial and residential hubs including Dubai World Trade Centre and the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC). The upgrade is expected to benefit close to half a million residents and visitors by improving connectivity to Za’abeel, Downtown Dubai, Business Bay, and beyond.
