MediaTek has introduced two new mobile chipsets, the Dimensity 9500s and Dimensity 8500, designed to strengthen its presence in both flagship and mid-range segments. The Dimensity 9500s uses a flagship-grade 3nm process and features an “All Big Core” architecture similar to the existing Dimensity 9500. It is equipped with a powerful CPU setup including an Arm Cortex-X925 Ultra core clocked at 3.73GHz, three Cortex-X4 cores, and four Cortex-A720 cores. The chipset also includes an Immortalis-G925 GPU supporting advanced gaming features such as adaptive game technology 3.0, frame technology 3.0, and ray-tracing. MediaTek claims the chipset has a dedicated NPU capable of supporting generative AI and agentic AI tasks.

The Dimensity 9500s also integrates the MediaTek Imagiq image processor, enabling 8K 60fps video recording with Dolby Vision HDR and real-time motion tracking. Devices running this chipset can support WQHD+ displays up to 180Hz and camera sensors up to 320 megapixels. Connectivity options include Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.4, dual SIM 5G, 4G LTE, and multiple satellite navigation systems. The chipset supports LPDDR5X RAM and UFS 4.0 storage, and includes MediaTek UltraSave 4.0 power-saving technology for better battery efficiency.

The Dimensity 8500 is positioned as a 4nm mid-range chipset featuring eight Cortex-A725 cores running up to 3.4GHz and a Mali-G720 GPU. MediaTek claims the GPU offers 25% better performance and 20% lower power consumption compared to its predecessor. The Dimensity 8500 supports 4K 60fps video recording, WQHD+ screens up to 144Hz, and camera sensors up to 320 megapixels. It also includes the MediaTek NPU 880 for AI tasks, including large language models and image generation. For connectivity, it supports Wi-Fi 6E along with 5G, 4G LTE, and major satellite navigation systems.

Both chipsets are designed to support global mainstream big language models and image generation models through their dedicated NPUs. While the Dimensity 9500s targets flagship devices and rivals Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 5, the Dimensity 8500 aims at delivering strong AI and performance capabilities for mid-range smartphones.
