Hollywood star Miles Teller has a special request for his Top Gun: Maverick co-star Tom Cruise if a third installment in the high-energy franchise ever gets the green light. Teller humorously mentioned that he would need a six-month heads-up from Cruise to prepare physically for the potential sequel.
Speaking on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, the actor, who played Lieutenant Bradley “Rooster” Bradshaw in the 2022 blockbuster, joked about his fitness regimen. “I just told Tom, ‘Give me enough time, heads up for me to get in shape.’ One month per ab—I need six months’ notice,” Teller quipped.
Teller’s character Rooster is the son of the late Goose, originally portrayed by Anthony Edwards in the 1986 classic. Cruise, reprising his legendary role as Pete “Maverick” Mitchell, led the sequel as an instructor training a new batch of elite pilots, including Rooster.
Despite being a key part of Top Gun: Maverick, Teller admitted that he has no control over whether a third film happens. “You might be shocked, but I do not greenlight that thing. I have nothing to do with it,” he told Colbert. When asked about the possibility of another sequel, he remained uncertain but acknowledged the strong support from both fans and the creative team. “There’s a lot of enthusiasm on the fans’ side. There’s a lot of enthusiasm on the creative side. So we’ll see,” he added.
Top Gun: Maverick, released in May 2022, became a global box office hit, raking in an impressive $1.48 billion worldwide and emerging as the highest-grossing film of the year. The movie paid homage to its predecessor with nostalgic moments, including Val Kilmer’s return as Iceman and a recreation of the iconic beach sports scene that showcased the cast’s rigorous training.
The film featured an ensemble cast, including Jennifer Connelly, Jay Ellis, and Jon Hamm, with a storyline that delved into Maverick’s past, making it a deeply emotional and engaging experience for audiences. With fans eagerly anticipating another chapter in the franchise, only time will tell if Top Gun 3 will take flight.
