In a rare display of on-field frustration, MS Dhoni expressed visible anger at Chennai Super Kings’ 20-year-old batter Shaik Rasheed during their IPL 2025 match against Sunrisers Hyderabad. The moment occurred during the final ball of the eighth over in SRH’s innings when Rasheed’s unnecessary overthrow allowed Ishan Kishan to snatch an extra run, much to the dismay of the veteran skipper.
The situation unfolded when CSK all-rounder Sam Curran delivered a full ball outside off which Kishan tapped for a single. Rasheed, positioned at extra cover, rushed in and hurled the ball toward the non-striker’s end despite no backup presence. The throw missed the stumps and resulted in Kishan running back for a second. Dhoni, known for his calm demeanor, was seen gesturing towards his head, signaling Rasheed to think before reacting.
Earlier in the match, Rasheed was dismissed for a golden duck by Mohammed Shami, adding to a forgettable outing for the youngster. This marks another low point in his IPL 2025 campaign, where he has accumulated just 46 runs across four games.
CSK’s batting unit once again faltered, getting bundled out for 154 runs in 19.5 overs. Harshal Patel proved lethal with his variations, claiming 4 wickets for just 28 runs. Despite some assistance from the dew, Sunrisers Hyderabad found it challenging to chase the target but eventually crossed the line in 18.4 overs.
Ishan Kishan led the way with a measured 44 off 34 balls, while Kamindu Mendis and Nitish Kumar Reddy stitched together a composed 49-run partnership to steer SRH to a crucial victory — their first at this particular venue. With this win, SRH moved above Rajasthan Royals to the eighth spot on the IPL 2025 points table, leaving CSK rooted at the bottom.
CSK have now lost seven out of nine matches, putting their playoff hopes on the brink. For SRH, this win keeps a slim window open for qualification, though they must win all their remaining five games by convincing margins to reach the tentative 16-point mark.
