Nicki Minaj and Jay-Z’s long-simmering tensions are back in the spotlight as fans revisit claims that the rap mogul still owes the “Barbie World” star millions from the controversial TIDAL streaming platform deal. Over the past week, Minaj’s devoted fanbase, known as the Barbz, have reignited debate about the original artist equity agreement after she posted about her “Student of the Game” charity, suggesting she plans to help fans pay student loans with funds she claims Jay-Z owes her.

The feud traces back to 2015 when Jay-Z relaunched TIDAL in a $56 million deal, signing on major artists like Nicki Minaj, Rihanna, J. Cole, Madonna and others as equity partners. Reports suggested each artist received around 3% equity to provide exclusive content and boost the platform’s visibility. But when Jay-Z sold a majority stake to Jack Dorsey’s Square for $302 million in 2021, fans and Minaj herself claimed they never received their expected payout.

This week, the Barbz took to X to demand accountability, flooding the platform with viral posts and screenshots of Minaj’s old statements. One post read, “JayZ owes Nicki Minaj money and an apology,” while others called for Jay-Z to pay her what she’s owed.

Adding fuel to the fire, Nicki Minaj reacted with laughing and disappointed emojis, subtly confirming she still feels shortchanged. She doubled down by posting, “I’m going to use some of the money #JayZ owes me to send some of my Barbz to college pay their school fees & student loans via my #StudentOfTheGame charity,” rallying her fan base even more.

The tension doesn’t end there. Earlier this year, Minaj also took shots at Jay-Z’s Roc Nation and its CEO Desiree Perez and expressed frustration when Lil Wayne wasn’t picked for the Super Bowl halftime show — a decision some believe was influenced by Jay-Z’s NFL partnership. While Jay-Z has stayed publicly silent, the controversy is heating up again with hashtags demanding an apology or payment trending across social media.

Despite no legal steps being announced yet, Nicki’s loyal fans appear determined to hold Jay-Z accountable and keep the spotlight firmly on the unresolved TIDAL equity issue.
