Nintendo has officially launched the Nintendo Switch 2, marking its first new gaming hardware in eight years. The next-generation hybrid console arrives with significant improvements in display quality, processing power, and controller design. Revealed in detail during a special Nintendo Direct broadcast in April, the Switch 2 has now hit shelves in select countries starting June 5, 2025.
Designed as a successor to the original Nintendo Switch, the new device boasts a larger 7.9-inch LCD touchscreen with 1920×1080 resolution, HDR10 support, and variable refresh rates up to 120Hz, delivering a smooth and vivid gaming experience. The system is powered by a custom-built Nvidia chip that enables DLSS upscaling and ray tracing support in compatible titles. It offers 256GB of internal UFS storage and supports expansion up to 2TB via microSD Express cards.
In docked mode, the Switch 2 can output 4K video at 60fps and even support 120fps gameplay at lower resolutions like 1080p or 1440p. It features modern connectivity, including two USB Type-C ports, a LAN port, HDMI output, a 3.5mm audio jack, and a microSD Express slot.
The upgraded Joy-Con 2 controllers now feature mouse sensors, HD rumble 2, improved motion control, and Bluetooth 3 support. The right controller also includes NFC functionality. Another standout addition is GameChat, a new feature enabling in-game voice communication during online multiplayer sessions.
The console supports Wi-Fi 6 and includes stereo speakers and a built-in mic. The system’s battery is rated at 5220mAh, offering 2 to 6.5 hours of gameplay depending on usage, with a 3-hour charging time in sleep mode. Each Joy-Con 2 controller houses a 500mAh battery, lasting up to 20 hours on a full charge.
Nintendo is launching the Switch 2 in two versions — the standard edition priced at $449.99 (approx. ₹38,600) and a bundle with Mario Kart World priced at $499.99 (approx. ₹42,900). The console is not officially released in India yet, but imports may become available soon through unofficial channels.
Nintendo’s Switch 2 arrives with a strong game library at launch, including Cyberpunk 2077, Mario Kart World, Split Fiction, and upgraded editions of existing Switch titles. Fans across Japan, the U.S., and other markets were seen queuing up for the release, with early reports suggesting potential global shortages due to high demand.
