India’s T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav has firmly addressed the growing discussion around his batting struggles as the countdown to the T20 World Cup intensifies. After another modest outing against South Africa in the third T20I at Dharamsala, the Indian skipper acknowledged that while the runs have not flowed, his confidence and rhythm remain intact.
The dynamic right-hander, often referred to as India’s Mr 360, has endured a challenging year in international T20 cricket. Despite dominating the IPL with a prolific season for Mumbai Indians, his returns in India colours during 2025 have been underwhelming, with no half-centuries and an average below expectations. However, Suryakumar was quick to clarify that form is not the issue.
Speaking after India’s seven-wicket win, the 35-year-old stressed that his preparation and mindset are strong. He explained that his net sessions have been positive and that he is doing everything within his control, believing the runs will arrive at the right moment. According to him, the distinction between being out of form and being out of runs is crucial, and he firmly places himself in the latter category.
While his batting has been scrutinised, Suryakumar’s leadership record tells a different story. Since taking charge of India’s T20I side, he has maintained an impressive series record and guided the team through key comebacks. Reflecting on the Dharamsala victory, he highlighted the importance of learning from setbacks, returning to basics, and trusting simple plans rather than overcomplicating strategies.
India’s bowlers and support staff, he noted, played a key role in regrouping after earlier losses, with focused practice sessions and clear communication helping the team regain momentum. With India now eyeing a series-clinching win in the fourth T20I at Lucknow, Suryakumar remains optimistic that both team success and personal runs are just around the corner.
