Nothing has officially begun rolling out its next major software update, Nothing OS 4.0, bringing Android 16 and a refreshed visual experience to eligible devices. First showcased in September, the new interface introduces a series of redesigned animations, deeper system personalisation, and multiple AI-driven functions intended to improve daily usage for Phone 3 owners and future compatible models.
According to the company’s latest announcement, Nothing OS 4.0 is currently being delivered to the Nothing Phone 3 as the first phase of the rollout. The brand confirmed that CMF smartphones will also receive the update soon, although a complete distribution timeline has not yet been shared. With this release, Nothing aims to unify its ecosystem under a more fluid, intelligent and visually cohesive system.
One of the standout additions is the AI usage dashboard, giving users clearer insights into how apps utilise system resources. The update also debuts the TrueLens Engine, a new processing technology designed to enhance camera clarity, gallery rendering and overall imaging performance. Alongside this, the Essential Apps suite now includes expanded AI creation tools to support content generation.
Nothing OS 4.0 further introduces expanded Live Updates through the Glyph Interface, allowing users to see real-time delivery tracking ride updates and timers directly on both the display and the signature rear LED strip. Apps that integrate Android 16’s live update APIs are expected to work seamlessly with Nothing’s Glyph Progress system.
The new Extra Dark Mode strengthens low-light usability by offering deeper contrast more comfortable nighttime viewing and reduced power consumption. It is now supported across Essential Space Launcher and system visuals. Additional improvements include refreshed app open and close animations haptic alerts at volume limits enhanced notifications and new widget resizing options such as 1×1 and 2×1 layouts for Weather Pedometer and Screen Time.
Nothing OS 4.0 also lets users hide selected applications from the app drawer while a new pop-up view allows two floating apps to be used simultaneously with gesture-based switching. Phone 3 owners additionally receive upgraded Pocket Mode Flip to Glyph controls and updated Glyph Toys. The Glyph Mirror Selfie feature now saves both the mirrored and original versions directly in the system gallery for easier selection.
