Nothing has officially announced the second edition of its Community Edition Project, inviting users to participate in the co-design process for the Nothing Phone 3a. The initiative, which allows community members to contribute ideas for the phone’s hardware, accessories, software, and marketing, will take place in four stages.
The Nothing Phone 3a Community Edition will be designed with input from users, following the success of last year’s Nothing Phone 2a Plus Community Edition, which was introduced as a limited-edition model with only 1,000 units available. This collaborative project aims to create a unique version of the Nothing Phone 3a, reflecting the ideas and creativity of the Nothing community.
Nothing Phone 3a Community Edition: How It Works
According to an official press release, Nothing is accepting submissions from March 26 to April 23, allowing users to contribute ideas that could be integrated into the Phone 3a Community Edition. The project will be conducted in four phases:
- Hardware Design – Participants can collaborate with Nothing’s team to shape the device’s design.
- Accessory Design – Users can propose unique accessories or collectibles to be included with the special edition phone.
- Software Design – This phase will focus on wallpapers, widgets, and UI elements that align with the brand’s aesthetic.
- Marketing Campaign – Nothing will incorporate community-driven ideas into the promotional strategy for the device.
Winners from each category will receive a cash prize of GBP 1,000 (approximately Rs. 1,10,000) and the opportunity to work directly with the Nothing team to bring their designs to life.
Past Success and Future Expectations
Nothing introduced its first Community Edition Project in March 2024, which resulted in the launch of the Nothing Phone 2a Plus Community Edition in October. That model featured a glow-in-the-dark design and was released in a limited batch of just 1,000 units.
The Nothing Phone 3a Community Edition is expected to be released later this year, though specific pricing and availability details have yet to be announced.
