Novak Djokovic Creates History as Oldest Masters 1000 Semi-Finalist at Miami Open

Date:

Serbian tennis legend Novak Djokovic continues to break records, securing his place in the semi-finals of the Miami Open with a dominant performance against American Sebastian Korda. The 37-year-old showcased his brilliance with a 6-3, 7-6 (7/4) victory, making him the oldest player to reach a Masters 1000 semi-final in history.

Djokovic, a six-time Miami Open champion, aims to clinch his first title in Miami since 2016. His stellar performance against Korda saw him winning 84% of his first-serve points, with 11 aces proving crucial in securing the win.

“One word, serve. This was probably my best serving performance in a long time,” Djokovic said after the match. He emphasized the importance of his first-serve precision, especially in the second set when Korda’s groundstrokes gained momentum.

A title win in Miami would mark Djokovic’s 100th career singles title, adding another remarkable milestone to his legendary career. “I am playing my best tennis in a long time. Matches like these motivate me to keep pushing for more,” the 24-time Grand Slam champion added.

Mensik and Fritz Advance in Miami Open

Czech teenager Jakub Mensik pulled off an impressive win, reaching his first-ever Masters 1000 semi-final by defeating Arthur Fils in straight sets, 7-6 (7/5), 6-1. The 19-year-old’s dominant serving and focused gameplay proved too strong for Fils, who had earlier stunned top seed Alexander Zverev.

“This is the biggest result of my career so far. The key is to stay focused for two weeks because every match is tough,” Mensik said post-match.

In another gripping quarter-final clash, Taylor Fritz secured a hard-fought victory over Matteo Berrettini with a 7-5, 6-7 (7/9), 7-5 win. Berrettini saved six match points in the second-set tiebreak but ultimately fell short as Fritz raised his game in the final set.

“I had many chances to close it earlier, but I had to push myself to another level in the third set,” Fritz admitted after sealing his place in the semi-finals.

As the Miami Open heads toward the final stages, Djokovic will face Grigor Dimitrov, while Mensik takes on Fritz in what promises to be a thrilling semi-final showdown.
