Many foods celebrated for their nutrient density and health benefits may not be suitable for everyone. Nutritionist Kiran Kukreja has highlighted 10 commonly praised foods that can be harmful for certain health conditions, urging people to match their diet to their medical needs rather than general trends.
Superfoods like spinach coconut water chia seeds beetroot garlic sweet potatoes turmeric ginger and cloves have become kitchen staples because they are rich in vitamins minerals and antioxidants. However, Kukreja points out that even nutrient-packed items can trigger or worsen symptoms for individuals with specific ailments.
Here’s her list of 10 healthy foods to avoid if you have certain health issues:
- Low blood pressure (BP): Avoid coconut water as it may further reduce BP levels.
- Kidney stones: Skip high-oxalate foods like spinach and beetroot to prevent worsening the condition.
- High uric acid: Mushrooms can aggravate symptoms and should be avoided.
- Hypothyroidism: Limit or avoid soybean products which can interfere with thyroid function.
