OpenAI has confirmed that its new group chat feature inside ChatGPT is now available to users across the globe, marking a major step toward collaborative AI interaction. The feature was first introduced in mid-November and initially limited to regions including Japan New Zealand South Korea and Taiwan. After positive testing results OpenAI has begun offering the tool to everyone using ChatGPT whether on the Free Go Plus or Pro tiers.

The group chat function allows people to create dedicated spaces where multiple users can interact both with one another and with ChatGPT. Once a group is created the platform generates a shareable link that makes inviting members easy. Participants can tag ChatGPT for help ask questions continue discussions or rely on the AI to respond when it detects relevant context from ongoing conversations.

Users can also react to messages reply directly within threads and manage group settings through a new dedicated section in the ChatGPT sidebar. Group creators are able to add or remove members while other participants can rename the chat or mute alerts. These collaborative spaces appear alongside regular chats making it simple to switch between personal conversations and group sessions.

Another powerful feature lets users convert an existing one-on-one conversation with ChatGPT into a group without losing the original. ChatGPT clones the conversation so users can keep the private thread active while also creating a new collaborative version for a team or friend group. This makes the feature especially convenient for study groups projects and shared brainstorming.

Users can further refine how ChatGPT behaves within each group by applying custom instructions. These settings affect only that specific group session allowing tailored interactions depending on whether the chat is for work education creativity or casual use. Following successful testing and strong early feedback OpenAI plans to continue improving ChatGPT’s multi-user experience.
