In a surprising move that has stunned the cricket world, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has appointed Shan Masood, the country’s current Test captain, as Consultant for International Cricket and Player Affairs. The decision has raised eyebrows across the cricketing community, as such a senior administrative post is rarely — if ever — held by an active international player, particularly a sitting national captain.

The PCB’s statement announcing the appointment offered limited details regarding the scope of Masood’s new role, its duration, or how it would align with his existing duties as Test captain. This dual role has prompted questions about a possible conflict of interest, as Masood will now hold influence over the very cricket structure he represents on the field.

Masood reportedly learned of his new appointment during a dinner hosted by the Prime Minister of Pakistan following the conclusion of Pakistan’s Test series against South Africa in Karachi, which ended in a 1–1 draw. Sources suggest this could be a temporary arrangement leading up to Masood’s potential promotion as Director of International Cricket, a position the PCB is currently hiring for, with applications closing on November 2. The role was last held by Usman Wahla, who was suspended earlier this year without clarification.

Masood’s tenure as captain has been eventful, with four Test wins and ten losses, including defeats against Australia, South Africa, and Bangladesh. Despite criticism over Pakistan’s recent performances, Masood’s individual form with the bat has remained strong. His appointment to a senior board role while actively leading the team, however, has sparked concerns about transparency and balance within PCB’s governance.

The PCB has not yet clarified whether this marks the beginning of Masood’s transition into administration or a short-term experiment. For now, it adds another layer of uncertainty to Pakistan’s cricket setup, known for its frequent shake-ups and unpredictability.

Pakistan’s upcoming Test commitments in 2026 include series against Bangladesh, West Indies, and England, leaving fans and analysts wondering whether Shan Masood will lead those matches from the field, from the boardroom, or attempt both roles simultaneously.Shan Masood PCB Pakistan Cricket Board Pakistan Test captain Shan Masood consultant appointment Pakistan cricket news Pakistan Test series PCB controversy Shan Masood new role PCB leadership PCB decision cricket administration Pakistan sports news Shan Masood cricket governance Pakistan captain conflict of interest Pakistan cricket updates Pakistan cricket politics PCB latest news Shan Masood consultant position Pakistan Test team 2026 Pakistan vs South Africa Shan Masood Test record Pakistan cricket structure cricket board decision cricket management PCB appointments Pakistan cricket captain Shan Masood news
