Longlegs movie 2028 release Paramount horror movie Nicolas Cage Longlegs Osgood

A fresh installment set in the eerie world of Longlegs is officially on the way, with Paramount announcing a theatrical release date of January 14, 2028. The upcoming project marks a return to the unsettling universe first introduced in the 2024 horror hit, which gained widespread attention for its chilling tone and strong box office performance.

Filmmaker Osgood Perkins will once again take charge as both writer and director, continuing his creative vision that helped define the original film’s haunting style. Nicolas Cage is also set to reprise his role, bringing back the mysterious and terrifying presence that became a standout element of the earlier movie. While the new film is connected to the original story, it is being described as a separate narrative within the same universe rather than a direct sequel.

The first Longlegs film, released in July 2024, proved to be a major success, earning approximately $128 million globally despite being made on a modest budget of under $10 million. Its marketing strategy was widely praised for building suspense and intrigue, helping position it as a standout horror release of the year. The story followed an FBI agent, portrayed by Maika Monroe, investigating a series of disturbing cases tied to a cryptic serial killer known as Longlegs.

The new film’s development also marks a shift in studio backing. While the original project was distributed by Neon, the upcoming installment is now under Paramount. Industry sources suggest that the transition occurred due to the increased budget of the new film, aligning with Paramount’s growing focus on expanding its presence in the horror genre.

Despite this shift, Perkins continues to collaborate with Neon on other projects, maintaining a strong creative partnership. His upcoming works include several films currently in development, further establishing him as a prominent voice in modern horror cinema.

The production team for the 2028 release includes Brian Kavanaugh Jones, Osgood Perkins, Chris Ferguson, Dave Caplan, and Nicolas Cage, signaling continuity behind the scenes as well as on screen.

With a proven creative team and a successful foundation to build upon, the next chapter in the Longlegs universe is expected to generate strong anticipation among horror fans worldwide.
