A new controversy has emerged in international cricket after the Pakistan Cricket Board reportedly began exploring legal options following Blessing Muzarabani withdrawing from the Pakistan Super League to join the Indian Premier League.

According to reports the Zimbabwe pace bowler has been signed by Kolkata Knight Riders ahead of the upcoming 2026 IPL season. The tall fast bowler had earlier agreed to play for Islamabad United after being picked as a replacement for Shamar Joseph. His contract with the PSL franchise was reportedly valued at around PKR 11 million.

However the situation changed after the IPL franchise approached him with an opportunity to play in the tournament. Muzarabani eventually chose to join the IPL side leaving Islamabad United without their planned replacement player.

Reports suggest that the Pakistan Cricket Board is unhappy with the sudden withdrawal and may consider legal action against the 29 year old bowler for backing out of the league commitment at the last moment.

This is not the first time such a situation has occurred. During the previous season Corbin Bosch had also initially signed for Peshawar Zalmi before later joining Mumbai Indians as an injury replacement when both leagues were scheduled at the same time.

Despite the controversy Muzarabani remains one of Zimbabwe’s most important bowlers in the shortest format. He delivered impressive performances during the recent ICC T20 tournament where he picked up 13 wickets in six matches helping Zimbabwe national cricket team advance to the Super 8 stage.

The scheduling overlap between the PSL and IPL has become a major challenge for players and franchises alike. The 2026 edition of the Pakistan Super League is expected to start on March 26 while the IPL season will begin shortly after.

The PSL tournament will feature eight teams this year and is scheduled to run for more than a month with the final expected to take place in early May. Meanwhile the IPL season will conclude at the end of May with several top international players participating.

With both leagues competing for global talent the situation surrounding Blessing Muzarabani highlights the growing tension between franchise tournaments in world cricket.
