Pete Davidson is determined to be known for his professional achievements rather than his past romantic involvements. In a recent interview with W magazine, published on Thursday, the comedian and actor expressed his desire to shed the image of being solely identified by his relationships with famous figures like Kim Kardashian, Ariana Grande, and Kate Beckinsale.
Davidson, who is 31, emphasized his wish to be recognized for his contributions to his craft, stating, “I just want to be known for doing good work.” He confessed that he does not want his history with A-list celebrities to define him. “I want to be out there only when it’s related to movies, stand-up, charity, or business ventures. That’s when I want to be seen. I don’t want to be perceived as a loser who just dates people. That’s not who I am,” Davidson shared with the publication.
Davidson’s high-profile relationships have often overshadowed his career. He dated SKIMS founder Kim Kardashian from 2021 to 2022, following her highly publicized divorce from Kanye West. Before that, he was in a three-month relationship with Underworld actress Kate Beckinsale in 2019. In 2018, Davidson was briefly engaged to pop star Ariana Grande, who referenced their breakup in her hit song “Thank U, Next.”
Reflecting on the impact of his failed relationships on his public image, Davidson remarked, “But people hate celebrities now. The media takes a handful of celebs every couple of years and just destroys them. For some reason, I’m one of the people they chose to go after.”
Despite the negative attention, Davidson sees a silver lining. “It’s actually, in a way, a blessing because it allowed me to take a step back and evaluate things. What do you want to be? Who are you? I’m someone who is from Staten Island, wanted to do stand-up, and if I got to do anything else because of stand-up, it was a miracle,” Davidson explained.
