Pixar has officially confirmed that its animated hit Elio will premiere on Disney+ on September 17, 2025, following its strong theatrical run. The movie, which debuted in cinemas on June 20 this year, earned $72 million at the domestic box office and an impressive $153 million worldwide, according to reports from Variety.
The announcement was made by Pixar on X (formerly Twitter) with the post: “#Elio is coming to @DisneyPlus on September 17!” The animated sci-fi adventure tells the story of Elio Solís, a young orphan fascinated with space. Raised by his aunt, Major Olga, who gives up her dream of becoming an astronaut to take care of him, Elio embarks on an extraordinary intergalactic journey filled with adventure and discovery.
The film’s story was created by Adrian Molina, Madeline Sharafian, Domee Shi, and Julia Cho, with Molina, Sharafian, and Shi also sharing directing duties. The voice cast features Zoe Saldaña as Aunt Olga, Jameela Jamil as Ambassador Questa, along with Brad Garrett, Brandon Moon, Shirley Henderson, and Yonas Kibreab bringing other characters to life.
Critics praised Elio for its emotional depth and heartwarming storytelling. The Washington Post described the movie as a beautiful celebration of “the invisible ties of love and friendship that bind all of us aliens to each other.”
