Priyanka Chopra’s Hollywood Role in Heads of State Gets Mixed Reactions as Indian Fans Urge Her Return to Bollywood

Date:

The recently released trailer of Priyanka Chopra’s upcoming action film Heads of State has left Indian fans with mixed feelings. While some praised her power-packed portrayal of an MI6 agent alongside Hollywood stars Idris Elba and John Cena, many others expressed concern over her being repeatedly cast in similar roles. The film is set to premiere globally on Prime Video on July 2.

In Heads of State, Priyanka takes on the role of Noel Bisset, a bold and skilled MI6 agent attempting to prevent a global conspiracy. While her performance impressed a section of viewers, others were quick to point out the recurring theme in her international projects, comparing it to her past roles in Quantico and Citadel. The trailer’s action scenes and stylized combat triggered flashbacks of these earlier shows, leading many to voice their disappointment.

A Reddit user bluntly called the trailer “the most boring one” they’d seen lately, adding that it reminded them of Citadel for its glossy production and lack of emotional depth. Another commented on how Priyanka deserves more diverse roles, saying Hollywood has underutilized her talent over the years. “She’s stuck playing the same character over and over again,” said another fan.

The criticism wasn’t limited to role repetition. Several users on social media urged Bollywood filmmakers to offer Priyanka more meaningful scripts. A post on X (formerly Twitter) read, “I’m begging Vishal Bhardwaj to send her a script. I want the Barfi and 7 Khoon Maaf Priyanka back.”

Heads of State, directed by Ilya Naishuller, begins with a comedic twist when the President of the United States (John Cena) and the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom (Idris Elba) find themselves in danger mid-air. Priyanka’s character appears as the only trained professional on board, leading the mission to eliminate the attackers. With no backup, the world leaders must cooperate to save the day, giving the film an action-comedy tone.

The movie also stars Paddy Considine, Stephen Root, Carla Gugino, Jack Quaid, and Sarah Niles. While the film boasts a stellar ensemble and high-octane visuals, many Indian fans seem to believe Priyanka’s talents are better showcased in more layered, emotionally complex roles back home.
