Qualcomm has officially revealed the launch date for its upcoming Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 processor confirming that the newest flagship-level chipset will make its debut in China on November 26. Positioned just below the premium Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 the new SoC is expected to deliver performance that comes remarkably close to the company’s top-tier silicon. Early reports suggest that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 may use the same Adreno 840 GPU found in the Elite variant though with fewer processing units to maintain cost efficiency.
According to information shared on Weibo Qualcomm will unveil the octa core chipset exactly two months after the Elite model launched. Leaked specifications point to a CPU layout featuring two high powered prime cores running at 3.80GHz and six performance cores clocked at 3.32GHz reinforcing earlier claims from industry sources. The GPU is rumoured to run at the same 1.2GHz speed as the Elite chip potentially offering strong graphics output despite its scaled down configuration.
Benchmark leaks indicate impressive early results with the chipset reportedly scoring around 3000 in single core and 10000 in multi core Geekbench tests. The processor could also surpass 3.3 million points on AnTuTu and maintain over 100 frames per second in the GFXBench Aztec Ruins 1440p trial hinting at flagship grade gaming capability.
Several upcoming smartphones are expected to debut with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 including the OnePlus Ace 6T which may launch globally as the OnePlus 15R the Vivo S50 which could arrive as the Vivo X300 FE and new models from Redmi Turbo and Poco F8. As Qualcomm prepares to showcase its next generation chipset the tech industry is anticipating a strong contender in the premium Android performance race.
