Qualcomm has officially unveiled its Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, the latest flagship mobile SoC delivering up to 23 percent faster performance than its predecessor, the Snapdragon 8 Elite. Introduced at the Snapdragon Summit in Hawaii, the new chipset features third-generation Oryon CPU cores, enhanced Adreno GPU, and Hexagon NPU for powerful gaming, AI, and multimedia experiences on upcoming smartphones.
The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 is manufactured using TSMC’s 3nm N3P process and supports a peak clock speed of 4.65GHz. Devices using this chip will benefit from improved single-core and multi-core performance, enhanced web browsing, and up to 20 percent greater power efficiency. It supports LPDDR5x RAM and UFS 4.1 storage, making it ideal for high-performance smartphones.
AI capabilities are at the forefront, with Agentic AI assistant support enabling real-time learning and personalized recommendations while keeping user data secure on the device. The chipset allows for triple 20-bit Spectra AI ISP cameras, supporting sensors up to 320 megapixels, 4K video at 120fps, and 8K at 60fps, along with the Advanced Professional Video (APV) codec for high-bitrate professional footage.
The Adreno GPU now offers 23 percent better graphics performance and is optimized for Unreal Engine 5, Tile Memory Heap, and Mesh Shading. Connectivity features include Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6.0, and enhanced AI-powered Wi-Fi for lower gaming latency and up to 40 percent improved power savings. Additionally, the chipset provides satellite navigation support for QZSS, Galileo, Beidou, GLONASS, NavIC, and GPS, with sensor-assisted navigation and triple frequency support.
Flagship devices expected to feature the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 include the Xiaomi 17 series, OnePlus 15, and upcoming Poco smartphones, ensuring users get cutting-edge performance, AI enhancements, and professional-grade multimedia capabilities in the next generation of Android devices.
