A heated moment during the second ODI between Pakistan national cricket team and Bangladesh national cricket team sparked debate about sportsmanship after Salman Ali Agha was controversially run out by Mehidy Hasan Miraz. Former Pakistan captain Ramiz Raja shared his opinion on the incident, stating that modern international cricket leaves little space for acts of friendliness between opposing teams.

The incident occurred during the 39th over of the match played in Dhaka. Pakistan captain Mohammad Rizwan had played the ball back toward Mehidy Hasan. At the non striker’s end Salman Agha bent forward, apparently intending to return the ball to the Bangladesh skipper. However Mehidy reached the ball first and quickly threw it underarm toward the stumps catching Agha outside his crease and completing the run out.

After the decision appeared on the big screen confirming the dismissal, Agha reacted angrily and exchanged words with the Bangladesh players. The moment quickly became a talking point among fans and commentators discussing whether the act respected the spirit of the game.

During the mid innings analysis Ramiz Raja said that cricket today is extremely competitive and teams are constantly looking for opportunities to gain an advantage. According to him the run out might have appeared against traditional sportsmanship but it was still within the rules of the game.

Raja explained that while Agha seemed to be attempting a friendly gesture the Bangladesh captain was focused on taking the chance to dismiss him. He added that modern cricket rarely allows space for such gestures because players are under pressure to capitalise on every moment.

Following the match both players addressed the situation. Mehidy Hasan said he believed Agha would have tried to run if the ball had passed him which is why he attempted the run out. Meanwhile Salman Agha admitted that his emotional reaction on the field was unnecessary though he said he personally would not have attempted that type of dismissal.

Despite the controversy Pakistan went on to secure a convincing victory in the match winning by 128 runs under the Duckworth–Lewis–Stern method. The win helped Pakistan level the three match ODI series with the final match scheduled for March 15.
