Celebrated Indian filmmaker Rima Das unveiled her latest feature film Not a Hero at the Berlin International Film Festival where it received an enthusiastic response from viewers and critics alike. The film marked its world premiere in the Generation Kplus Competition section during the 76th edition of the prestigious festival highlighting Das’s continued global presence in international cinema.

Known for her sensitive storytelling and deeply rooted narratives Rima Das returned to Berlin with her third project following the success of Village Rockstars and Village Rockstars 2. Speaking about the premiere Das shared that Not a Hero embraces emotional complexity and ambiguity trusting young audiences to engage with layered experiences rather than simplified resolutions. She expressed gratitude for premiering in the Generation section which she described as a space that treats children as fully realised individuals rather than symbols or lessons.

The director attended the red carpet premiere alongside her cast including actor Sukanya Boruah with moments from the event shared widely on social media. Das described walking the red carpet with her team as deeply meaningful adding to the emotional significance of the film’s debut.

Not a Hero tells the story of a young boy who is removed from the familiarity of city life and sent to his ancestral village. There he navigates a challenging new environment encountering a stern aunt forming an unexpected bond with a horse and joining a group of free spirited local children. Through these experiences the boy begins to redefine his ideas of courage belonging and masculinity discovering inner strength in the process.

Shot across Assamese Hindi and English the film features Bhuman Bhargav Das in the lead role alongside Sukanya Boruah and a cast largely made up of non professional actors a signature element of Rima Das’s filmmaking style. The project reinforces her reputation for authentic performances natural settings and emotionally honest storytelling.
