Rishabh Pant’s Dugout Outburst Raises Eyebrows After Delayed Batting Call in LSG vs DC Clash

Date:

Tensions ran high during the recent IPL 2025 match between Lucknow Super Giants and Delhi Capitals as LSG skipper Rishabh Pant was seen visibly frustrated and engaged in an intense conversation with mentor Zaheer Khan following his late entry into the batting lineup. The incident unfolded just moments after Pant’s dismissal in the final over of the innings raising questions about the team’s decision-making and batting order strategy.

After the dismissal of Nicholas Pooran in the 12th over with LSG at 99 for 2 fans and experts anticipated Pant to take charge at the crease. However the decision to send Abdul Samad instead sparked confusion especially since a left-hand batsman like Pant would have been a better strategic fit. The surprise deepened as Samad and Mitchell Marsh fell quickly in the next over to Mukesh Kumar with still no sign of the LSG captain.

In a baffling move David Miller and Ayush Badoni were promoted ahead of Pant who finally came out to bat at number 7 with just two balls remaining in the innings. Pant attempted two aggressive shots but failed to connect and was dismissed after hitting the ball onto his own stumps. His walk back to the dugout was filled with frustration as he appeared visibly angry prompting an animated exchange with Zaheer Khan.

Former Indian cricketers Suresh Raina and Anil Kumble weighed in on the incident during post-match analysis. Raina remarked that Pant likely told Zaheer “I told you send me in” hinting that Pant wanted to bat earlier in the innings. Kumble criticized the situation saying that while it’s understandable for a player to feel upset the captain should channel emotions positively and lead with composure.

Pant’s frustrations were evident as LSG collapsed from a promising 87-run opening partnership to a final score of 159/6. In response DC chased the target with ease as KL Rahul and Abishek Proel scored fluent half-centuries sealing the game in just 17.5 overs.

After the match Pant explained the team’s approach saying they aimed to capitalise on favorable batting conditions with Samad but admitted that the plan backfired. “These are the things we’ve got to figure out and try to find our best combination going forward” he said.

This match not only highlighted a missed opportunity for LSG but also sparked speculation about internal disagreements and the need for clearer leadership decisions especially under high-pressure conditions like the IPL.
