Former Brazil and Real Madrid icon Roberto Carlos has addressed widespread speculation about his health after reports emerged claiming he had suffered a heart attack. The football legend has firmly denied the rumours and clarified that he recently underwent a planned and preventive medical procedure, reassuring fans that his recovery is progressing well.
The 52-year-old shared an update from Hospital Vila Nova Star in São Paulo, posting a smiling photo from his hospital room and emphasising that there was no emergency situation. Roberto Carlos explained that doctors detected a heart obstruction during routine checks and advised him to undergo a coronary angioplasty as a precautionary measure. The minimally invasive procedure was carried out successfully on the same day.
In his statement, the former defender confirmed that he did not experience a heart attack and that the procedure had been scheduled in advance with his medical team. He added that he is in good condition, feeling positive, and eager to return to his professional and personal commitments once cleared by doctors. Hospital officials confirmed that he remains stable and is being monitored in intensive care purely as part of standard medical protocol.
Roberto Carlos is widely regarded as one of the most attack-minded left backs in football history. He earned 125 international caps for Brazil and enjoyed an illustrious 11-year spell at Real Madrid, where he won multiple domestic and European titles. He was part of Brazil’s World Cup squad that finished runners-up in 1998 and lifted the trophy in 2002, along with Copa América triumphs in 1997 and 1999. He currently serves as a global ambassador for Real Madrid.
The football world has responded with an outpouring of support, relieved by his clarification and optimistic about his swift return to full health.
