Rohit Sharma appears fully determined to make a strong comeback as he prepares for the much-anticipated India vs Australia ODI series, starting October 19 in Perth. After being replaced as India’s ODI captain, the veteran opener is focused on letting his bat do the talking. The 38-year-old is pushing his limits at Shivaji Park in Mumbai, sharpening his form before facing the pace challenge from Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood.

In a recent training session, Rohit was seen tackling fast bowlers with confidence, showcasing his signature pull and cut shots along with elegant inside-out drives. Later, he took on spinners, executing sweeps and slog sweeps with power and precision. Reports suggest the “Hitman” has shed around 8 kilograms, working closely with former India assistant coach Abhishek Nayar to regain peak fitness.

This upcoming series marks Rohit Sharma’s first international appearance since the Champions Trophy 2025, and expectations are high. The star batter aims to silence critics questioning his future and make a statement ahead of the 2027 World Cup, which will be hosted across South Africa, Namibia, and Zimbabwe.

Following the BCCI’s announcement of Shubman Gill taking over ODI captaincy, questions emerged about the long-term plans for Rohit and Virat Kohli. Both players retired from T20Is after the 2024 World Cup victory and stepped away from Test cricket earlier this year. While Ajit Agarkar, Chairman of Selectors, avoided commenting on their 2027 prospects, Rohit remains focused on performing well in Australia.

Speaking at the CEAT Awards, Rohit expressed excitement about playing Down Under again:

Rohit is expected to join the national camp in Delhi next week, where Virat Kohli will also assemble with the rest of the squad before they fly to Australia.

With his intense training, renewed fitness, and hunger to prove his mettle, Rohit Sharma is clearly ready to remind everyone why he’s still one of the most feared openers in world cricket.
