Samsung has unveiled its latest foldable smartphones—the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7—during its recent Galaxy Unpacked event. In a surprising shift in consumer behavior, early pre-order figures from South Korea indicate that the Galaxy Z Fold 7 has surpassed the traditionally dominant Galaxy Z Flip lineup in popularity. This marks the first time the Fold model has taken the lead over the Flip in pre-order volumes.
According to data reported by ETNews, Samsung received an impressive 1.04 million pre-orders for the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7 combined in South Korea. This figure breaks the previous record of 1.02 million set by the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5 back in 2023. The current numbers also reflect a 14 percent increase from the 910,000 units pre-ordered last year for the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Flip 6 series.
Out of these recent pre-orders, 60 percent of customers chose the Galaxy Z Fold 7, marking a notable consumer tilt toward book-style foldable phones over clamshell designs. Major South Korean telecom carriers including SK Telecom, KT, and LG Uplus have confirmed these statistics.
The Blue Shadow colorway emerged as the most favored choice among buyers for both the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and the Galaxy Z Flip 7. For the Fold 7, Jet Black came in second, while Coral Red was the next popular option for Flip 7 buyers.
Demographic insights suggest 83 percent of Fold 7 pre-orders were placed by male customers at SK Telecom, whereas 59 percent of Flip 7 pre-orders came from female buyers. Moreover, over 60 percent of all orders came from consumers aged in their 30s and 40s, highlighting strong interest among working professionals.
The positive momentum is not limited to South Korea. In India, Samsung reported a combined total of 2,10,000 pre-orders for the Galaxy Z Fold 7, Galaxy Z Flip 7, and Flip 7 FE, nearly matching the figures previously recorded by the Galaxy S25 series. Pricing in India starts at ₹1,74,999 for the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and ₹1,09,999 for the Galaxy Z Flip 7, both offering 12GB RAM and 256GB storage.
