Sarah Jessica Parker has finally addressed the viral fashion moment that had the internet buzzing — her oversized “cloud hat” from the Season 3 premiere of And Just Like That…. Known for pushing bold fashion boundaries as Carrie Bradshaw, Parker revealed that she personally fought to include the much-talked-about accessory in the show.

The Story Behind Carrie Bradshaw’s Cloud Hat

In the opening episode of Season 3, fans spotted Carrie strolling through a New York City park wearing a bonnet-style hat that quickly took social media by storm. Many viewers compared her look to Strawberry Shortcake, while others joked it resembled a giant balloon. The hat, designed by Maryam Keyhani, was even humorously described by showrunner Michael Patrick King as looking like “the Hindenburg balloon” had landed on Carrie’s head.

Sarah Jessica Parker Explains Why She Loved the Hat

During a Q&A hosted by Evan Ross Katz at il Buco al Mare in Amagansett on August 11, Parker explained how she discovered the hat while browsing racks of wardrobe items with the show’s styling team. Surrounded by endless shoes, jewelry, and accessories, the dramatic headpiece immediately caught her attention.

“I personally love hats on Carrie. I love it,” Parker said. “The second I saw it, I just asked, ‘How do I get that on my head?’”

She admitted that the hat was “massive and shapeless” and that milliners usually avoid linen because it resists structure. Still, she adored it. “I loved it. I knew we had to find a moment for it,” she added.

Fans’ Mixed Reactions Didn’t Bother Her

While the “cloud hat” sparked polarizing opinions online, Parker said she never second-guessed the choice. She saw it as a “fun and interesting” fashion decision, staying true to Carrie Bradshaw’s fearless style.

This wasn’t the first time Parker addressed the look. Back in May, she told Glamour she had no idea it would blow up online: “You could have told me that hat was three by four. I would’ve felt the same.”

For Parker, it wasn’t about shock value — it was about expression. And whether fans loved it or hated it, the “cloud hat” is officially one of Carrie Bradshaw’s most unforgettable accessories.
