Saturday Night Live (SNL) is set for major changes in Season 51 as multiple cast members have confirmed their departures before the premiere on October 4, 2025. The most recent to announce her exit is Heidi Gardner, who first joined the NBC sketch comedy show in 2017.
Heidi Gardner’s Departure
Gardner entered the series in Season 43 as a featured player and quickly rose to full-time cast member status two years later. After eight seasons, she has now decided to move on, making her one of the longest-serving stars to leave in recent years.
Other SNL Cast Members Leaving
Gardner isn’t the only one stepping away from Studio 8H. Several other comedians have also revealed their exits:
- Devon Walker: Joined in Season 48 (2022) as a featured player, promoted later, and announced his departure on Instagram on August 26, 2025.
- Emil Wakim: Became part of the show in Season 50 but stayed only one year. He debuted alongside Ashley Padilla and Jane Wickline.
- Michael Longfellow: Also joined in Season 48 and was promoted to cast member in Season 50, but Deadline reported on August 28 that he too is leaving.
Lorne Michaels on SNL’s Future
SNL creator Lorne Michaels previously hinted at cast shakeups for the 2025-26 season. In an interview on August 22, he said he delayed major disruptions during the 50th anniversary season, which featured returns from Kate McKinnon Kristen Wiig and Maya Rudolph, but promised a refreshed lineup moving forward.
With Season 51 arriving in October, fans can expect a new mix of talent and fresh comedic energy on the iconic show.
