Sophie Turner Hints at Possible Sansa Stark Comeback in Future Game of Thrones Sequel

Sophie Turner Sansa Stark return Game of Thrones sequel Westeros HBO spin offs House of the Dragon A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms George RR Martin interview Sophie Turner news Sansa Stark Queen in the North Game of Thrones future HBO fantasy series Game of Thrones universe Westeros sequel plans Sophie

Sophie Turner has sparked fresh excitement among Game of Thrones fans by openly discussing the possibility of returning as Sansa Stark in a future sequel set in Westeros. While the actor is not ruling out stepping back into the world of the North, she has made it clear that any return would need to feel meaningful, justified and, as she jokingly put it, financially worthwhile.

With the Game of Thrones universe continuing to grow through prequels such as House of the Dragon and the upcoming A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, speculation around sequels has intensified. Recent comments from creator George R.R. Martin confirmed that alongside several spin-offs, sequel concepts are also being explored, reigniting hopes of seeing familiar faces again.

Sophie Turner, who portrayed Sansa Stark across all eight seasons of the original series, was last seen crowned Queen in the North, achieving independence for her people while her brother Bran became ruler of the Six Kingdoms. For many viewers, Sansa’s arc felt complete and triumphant, something Turner herself agrees with.

In an interview, Turner reacted humorously when asked about a potential sequel, saying she would need to “see the money” before considering a return. Beneath the joke, however, she shared thoughtful reflections about the challenge of revisiting something that once felt truly special. She explained that while returning could be joyful, it could also risk trying to recreate a magic that belonged to a specific time and place. For her, the deciding factor would ultimately be the strength of the script and the purpose behind Sansa’s return.

Turner also highlighted that she was genuinely satisfied with Sansa Stark’s ending, especially compared to the fate of many other characters. Despite the divisive response to the series finale in 2019, she feels Sansa emerged as one of the few true winners, having grown from a naive young girl into a confident and independent ruler. This sense of closure makes the decision to revisit the character more complex.

Looking ahead, HBO has a packed roadmap for the franchise extending well into 2028. While the previously discussed Jon Snow sequel starring Kit Harington appears to be on hold, Martin’s confirmation that other sequel ideas remain in development suggests the door to Westeros is far from closed. Whether Sansa Stark will one day return to the screen remains uncertain, but Sophie Turner’s comments make one thing clear: she hasn’t completely closed the gate.
