The global box office witnessed a major boost over the Easter weekend as The Super Mario Galaxy Movie delivered a blockbuster opening, pulling in an impressive $372.5 million worldwide. The animated sequel has become the biggest Hollywood debut of 2026 so far, signaling strong audience demand for family-friendly entertainment.

In the United States, the film earned approximately $190.1 million across the extended five-day holiday period, including $130.9 million from the traditional three-day weekend. Internationally, it added another $182.4 million from around 80 markets, showcasing its wide global appeal.

While the first Mario film in 2023 had an even larger holiday debut, the latest installment still ranks among the top Easter openings in box office history. It also secured one of the highest openings ever for an animated film and stands among the biggest launches for a Hollywood studio release in recent years.

The film continues the adventures of Mario Luigi and Princess Peach as they face Bowser and new threats across a galaxy-spanning storyline. The introduction of popular characters like Yoshi and Rosalina has further fueled excitement among fans.

Despite receiving mixed reactions from critics, audience response has been largely positive, reflected in strong viewer ratings and an A- CinemaScore. Industry experts believe the movie is set for a long and successful theatrical run.

Meanwhile, other films also performed steadily during the holiday frame. Project Hail Mary, starring Ryan Gosling, crossed major milestones by surpassing $400 million globally and $200 million domestically in its third weekend. The sci-fi film held strong at the second spot despite new competition.

In third place, The Drama featuring Zendaya and Robert Pattinson managed to attract attention with a solid opening, earning over $14 million. Though not aimed at family audiences, it performed respectably and generated positive audience feedback.

Animated titles continued to dominate the box office chart overall. Disney and Pixar’s Hoppers maintained its momentum, while Sony’s GOAT also crossed significant revenue benchmarks globally.

The Easter weekend results highlight a strong recovery phase for cinemas, driven largely by major franchise releases and audience enthusiasm for big-screen experiences.
