Date:

Looking for a chutney recipe that goes beyond the usual mint or tamarind options? This Falsa Chutney brings a refreshing burst of sweet and tangy flavors, making it a perfect accompaniment to your summer meals. Made from seasonal falsa berries (also known as Grewia Asiatica), this chutney is rich in antioxidants and offers a cooling effect in hot weather.

To prepare this delightful chutney, begin by cooking 500 grams of falsa berries in 1 to 2 cups of water over medium flame until the berries turn soft and pulpy. Once cooked, allow the mixture to cool completely. Blend the softened berries in a mixer grinder to form a smooth paste.

Next, strain the blended mixture using a fine sieve to separate the juice and discard the seeds. Transfer the strained liquid back to the pan and cook it on low to medium flame. Add 100 grams of jaggery and stir until it completely dissolves. Enhance the flavor by mixing in 1 teaspoon of red chilli powder and salt as per your taste. For a final touch of tanginess, add half a teaspoon of vinegar.

Let it simmer for a few seconds, then remove from heat. Pour the chutney into a serving bowl and allow it to cool before serving. This versatile chutney pairs well with Indian snacks, rice dishes, or can even be enjoyed with parathas. With its unique flavor profile and simple preparation, this homemade falsa chutney is sure to become a favorite in your kitchen.
