Actor Tabu has unveiled her first look as Sister Francesca in the Dune: Prophecy series, the highly anticipated prequel to Denis Villeneuve’s iconic Dune films. Expressing her excitement, Tabu shared that she agreed to take on the role “without hesitation” when approached. She described the experience of diving into the complexities of her character as both fascinating and challenging.
In the newly released first look, Tabu is seen wearing a black outfit with her hair pulled back into a ponytail, exuding intensity and depth. Her portrayal of Sister Francesca is characterized as “strong, intelligent, and alluring,” a role that leaves a lasting impact.
Reflecting on her journey with the character, Tabu said, “Playing Sister Francesca in Dune: Prophecy has been an extraordinary experience from the moment I was offered the role. I didn’t think twice before saying yes. As an actor, it’s incredibly rewarding to be entrusted with a character that is so layered and emotionally rich. The process of exploring her complexity was deeply immersive. I am thrilled to share her story with both Indian and global audiences through JioCinema. Although my appearance will be later in the season, the Dune Universe is filled with such rich history and intrigue. I can’t wait for audiences worldwide to dive into it!”
Sister Francesca, once the great love of the Emperor, returns to the palace and disrupts the fragile balance of power, making a profound impact on the unfolding events. Her character is central to the series’ narrative, which takes place 10,000 years before Paul Atreides’ rise to power. The show follows the journey of two Harkonnen sisters as they face formidable challenges to shape the future of humanity and lay the foundations for the legendary Bene Gesserit order.
Dune: Prophecy will be available exclusively on JioCinema Premium in India, though the official release date has yet to be announced. Alongside Tabu, the series features a stellar cast including Emily Watson, Olivia Williams, Travis Fimmel, and others. The show is set long before the events of Frank Herbert’s classic novel “Dune,” which was recently adapted into two films by Denis Villeneuve.
Alison Schapker serves as the showrunner and executive producer, with Diane Ademu-John co-developing the series. The production is a collaboration between HBO and Legendary Television.
