Netflix has officially released the teaser for The Rip, an upcoming action thriller starring Ben Affleck and Matt Damon. Scheduled to premiere on January 16, 2026, the film promises an intense storyline filled with trust issues, betrayal, and the dangerous lure of money.

The teaser reveals Affleck and Damon as Miami Police officers who stumble upon a hidden stash of $20 million in cash inside an abandoned stash house. While the discovery seems like a breakthrough, it quickly spirals into chaos as external forces and criminal networks close in, questioning loyalties and testing their bond.

Ben Affleck takes on the role of Detective Sergeant JD Byrne, while Matt Damon stars as Lieutenant Dane Dumars. Both characters wrestle with mistrust and moral dilemmas, raising the stakes in a high-octane battle for survival.

The film, directed and written by Joe Carnahan, is inspired by real experiences of a Miami police officer friend of the filmmaker. Carnahan explained that the concept of “rips” — slang for seizing large amounts of cash, drugs, or weapons — served as the foundation of the story. He also drew inspiration from classic ‘70s cop thrillers such as Serpico and Prince of the City.

The Rip also features an ensemble cast including Scott Adkins, Steven Yeun, Catalina Sandino Moreno, Teyana Taylor, Sasha Calle, Lina Esco, Néstor Carbonell, and Kyle Chandler. With its mix of action, suspense, and gritty realism, the film is already being touted as one of Netflix’s most anticipated thrillers of 2026.
