As Amazon-MGM sets its sights on a bold new era for the legendary James Bond franchise fans are buzzing over who will step into the iconic 007 role. According to reports from Variety Tom Holland Jacob Elordi and Harris Dickinson have emerged as early favourites on the studio’s wish list signalling a dramatic shift towards a much younger Bond. The next agent is expected to be under 30 a notable break from recent interpretations. While no formal casting meetings have been confirmed yet the studio remains tight-lipped about the speculation.
The casting chatter comes just after it was announced that acclaimed filmmaker Denis Villeneuve will direct the upcoming Bond instalment. Villeneuve known for cinematic hits like Dune and Arrival is reported to have edged out names like Edward Berger Jonathan Nolan Paul King and Edgar Wright to secure the director’s chair. Villeneuve is currently working on Dune 3 but shared that he aims to both respect Bond’s legacy and set up exciting new adventures for future films.
Meanwhile Tom Holland who shot to global fame as Spider-Man once pitched the idea of a young Bond film to Sony although it didn’t gain traction at the time. He is next set to star in Nolan’s The Odyssey and the fourth Spider-Man movie. Harris Dickinson recognised for Triangle of Sadness and his directorial debut Urchin has previously hinted he’d welcome the Bond mantle saying he’d be “a fool not to consider it.” Jacob Elordi known for Euphoria and Priscilla could follow in the footsteps of fellow Australian George Lazenby who famously played Bond in the 1960s. Elordi called the rumours flattering adding he’d love to be considered for such an iconic role.
The 26th Bond film is still in its early stages and is not expected to arrive in cinemas before 2028 as Amazon MGM maps out its vision after acquiring creative control in a massive billion-dollar deal. This next chapter will be the franchise’s first since Daniel Craig’s final outing in No Time to Die which grossed over $774 million worldwide. Producers Amy Pascal and David Heyman are now on board adding to the excitement and speculation over what’s next for Britain’s most famous secret agent.
