Valve has officially introduced its new Steam Frame VR headset marking a major expansion of the company’s hardware ecosystem. Alongside the headset Valve also announced the Steam Machine gaming console and an updated Steam Controller with all products expected to roll out in 2026. The reveal confirms Valve’s return to the virtual reality space with a device focused on high performance detailed tracking and immersive design.
According to the company Steam Frame will arrive in multiple storage variants including 256GB and a premium 1TB model. The device runs on SteamOS 3 and is powered by Qualcomm’s 4nm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset paired with 16GB LPDDR5X RAM and expandable UFS storage. It also includes a detachable headstrap featuring dual speakers and a built in 21.6Whr battery that supports 45W fast charging through a USB Type C port.
The headset uses dual LCD displays offering 2160×2160 resolution per eye along with a refresh rate of up to 144Hz. Custom pancake lenses are designed to provide a wide 110 degree field of view. Valve has equipped the headset with four external tracking cameras and two internal cameras for precise eye tracking. Users will also be able to enable monochrome passthrough mode to blend real world views with VR interfaces.
Design elements include an IPD adjustment scroll on top volume controls on the left and dedicated AUX and power buttons on the right side of the headset. Connectivity options feature dual band Wi Fi 7 Bluetooth 5.3 and a dual microphone system. The device weighs around 440g with attached headstrap and measures 175x95x110mm.
Steam Frame will ship with a pair of six DOF controllers featuring ABXY buttons and replaceable batteries that offer up to 40 hours of use per charge. While pricing has not yet been disclosed Valve states the entire hardware lineup will be available early next year.
