Virat Kohli has once again silenced critics questioning his commitment and form after stepping away from Test and T20I cricket. As India prepares for the three-match ODI series against Australia, Kohli reminded everyone that he’s been one of the most active cricketers in the world over the past 15 years, playing across formats and leagues without much rest. The former India captain revealed that his recent break has been refreshing, giving him valuable time with family while helping him regain both physical and mental sharpness.
During a candid pre-series chat with Adam Gilchrist and Ravi Shastri in Perth, Kohli shared insights into his preparation and mindset heading into the tour. When asked about his readiness after months away from competitive cricket, Kohli confidently explained that his experience and fitness keep him sharp. “I’ve probably played the most number of games in the last 15 years. For me, this break was important to recharge. I feel as fit, if not fitter, than ever before,” Kohli said.
The batting icon emphasized that maintaining peak fitness is now his top priority. “At this stage of my career, I know my body well. If I stay fit and my reflexes are on point, my game awareness naturally follows. It’s all about keeping the body and mind aligned,” he stated, sending a subtle message to those questioning his hunger for the game.
Kohli, who enjoyed stellar performances in the ICC World Cup 2023 and the 2025 Champions Trophy, highlighted that he’s feeling fresh and ready for new challenges. “I’m feeling great coming into Australia, training well, moving well in the nets, and enjoying my fielding sessions. The freshness is definitely there,” he added.
India, meanwhile, handed Nitish Kumar Reddy his ODI debut in the series opener against Australia at Perth’s Optus Stadium. The home side, led by Pat Cummins, chose to bowl first, setting the stage for another classic India vs Australia contest.
Kohli’s calm confidence and focus on longevity prove that while questions about his future may persist, his performance and passion continue to speak louder than words.
