Details surrounding the upcoming Xiaomi 16 smartphone are starting to surface ahead of its official unveiling which is expected to take place later this year. The device is tipped to bring major upgrades over its predecessor the Xiaomi 15 which launched in China in October 2024 and debuted in India in March 2025. According to fresh leaks the Xiaomi 16 could come with a 6.32-inch flat screen slim bezels and the most powerful battery ever used on a phone of this size.
A well-known tipster on Weibo known as Smart Pikachu has hinted that Xiaomi 16 will feature a compact yet advanced design while running the new HyperOS 3 interface likely based on Android 16. The phone is also expected to sport a lightweight build despite packing in a larger-than-usual battery. While the exact battery capacity remains under wraps it is rumored to surpass the 6260mAh unit found in the OnePlus 13T and could reach up to 7000mAh potentially setting a new benchmark for compact smartphones.
Camera performance is also expected to shine with the Xiaomi 16 rumored to include a triple 50-megapixel sensor setup including a main lens a telephoto camera and an ultra-wide sensor similar to the Xiaomi 15. On the front the phone could carry a 32-megapixel selfie shooter and maintain its IP68 water and dust resistance rating.
Powering the Xiaomi 16 could be Qualcomm’s yet-to-be-announced Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 processor. The new chipset may be paired with Xiaomi’s innovative silicon carbon battery technology for improved efficiency and durability. This aligns with Xiaomi’s recent efforts to bring high-end features even to non-Pro models.
In comparison the Xiaomi 15 offered a 6.36-inch AMOLED LTPO panel Snapdragon 8 Elite chip up to 12GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 512GB UFS 4.0 storage. It supported 90W wired and 50W wireless charging. Its Indian variant came with a slightly smaller 5240mAh battery and launched at Rs 64999.
Although the official launch date for the Xiaomi 16 series is still months away early leaks suggest that Xiaomi is preparing a significant upgrade in performance battery life and camera capabilities. More confirmed details are expected to emerge as the company approaches its launch timeline.
