The next-generation Xiaomi 16 is expected to bring notable enhancements over its predecessor, Xiaomi 15, with a larger display, a sleeker design, and the inclusion of a periscope telephoto camera. While Xiaomi 15 was launched in India earlier this month after its China debut last October, early leaks about the Xiaomi 16 series have started surfacing online, hinting at significant upgrades. The Xiaomi 16 lineup, which is likely to be introduced in China in October, may further reduce the differences between Xiaomi 16, Xiaomi 16 Pro, and Xiaomi 16 Ultra models.
According to Smart Pikachu, a well-known Chinese tipster on Weibo, Xiaomi 16 will feature a larger display compared to Xiaomi 15’s 6.36-inch AMOLED 1.5K panel. This suggests that the Xiaomi 16 might offer an even bigger screen, possibly approaching the 6.73-inch display seen on the Xiaomi 15 Pro.
Additionally, the Xiaomi 16 is expected to feature a lightweight and ultra-thin body, incorporating a stacked periscope telephoto camera. This move aligns with the current trend in the smartphone industry, where brands like Apple and Samsung are focusing on slimmer and lighter devices without compromising on performance.
Xiaomi 15: Specifications and Pricing
The Xiaomi 15 was launched in China in October and made its way to India earlier this month, accompanied by the Xiaomi 15 Ultra. It is available at a starting price of Rs. 64,999 for the 12GB RAM + 512GB storage variant.
The Xiaomi 15 is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite SoC, paired with up to 12GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 512GB of UFS 4.0 internal storage. It features a triple rear camera setup, consisting of a 50-megapixel Light Fusion 900 sensor, a 50-megapixel telephoto lens, and a 50-megapixel ultra-wide camera. The device is also IP68-rated, ensuring water and dust resistance.
Fueling the Xiaomi 15 is a 5,240mAh battery, which supports 90W wired fast charging and 50W wireless charging.
With the Xiaomi 16 lineup expected to debut later this year, it remains to be seen how Xiaomi enhances the design, camera, and performance of its next flagship series.
