Xiaomi’s futuristic Modular Optical System may soon move beyond the concept stage as new leaks suggest the innovative camera accessory has entered mass production. First unveiled as a concept at Mobile World Congress 2025 the modular camera system is designed to bring professional grade photography to smartphones without the complexity of traditional external lenses.
According to a tipster the Xiaomi Modular Optical System is now being manufactured at scale and could launch commercially later this year. The system uses a magnetic attachment mechanism allowing the lens to connect instantly to a compatible Xiaomi smartphone without pairing charging or manual file transfers. Once attached users can begin shooting immediately using Xiaomi’s AI powered imaging software.
The modular lens features a 35mm focal length with a large f 1.4 aperture and an advanced all 6G aspherical lens design. Xiaomi claims this setup delivers professional camera level optics while remaining around 50 percent thinner than conventional camera lenses. The compact form factor is aimed at photographers who want high quality results without bulky equipment.
A key highlight of the Modular Optical System is Xiaomi’s proprietary LaserLink technology. When the Light Fusion X Micro Four Thirds sensor captures light the data is instantly converted and transmitted to the phone via a near infrared laser connection at speeds of up to 10Gbps. This enables fast delivery of clean RAW image data directly to the smartphone for advanced processing.
By combining powerful optics high speed data transfer and mobile computational photography Xiaomi aims to blur the line between smartphones and dedicated cameras. While the company has not officially confirmed a release date the reported move to mass production suggests the Modular Optical System could soon be available to consumers.
