MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA – June 5, 2024 – YouTube Music, owned by Google, has launched an innovative new feature that allows users to find songs simply by humming a part of the melody. This cutting-edge tool leverages YouTube’s advanced technology to match the hummed tune with its extensive music library, making song discovery faster and easier than ever before.
YouTube Music is currently testing this ‘Hum to Search’ feature on its Android app with a select group of users. The feature allows users to hum, sing, or whistle a short part of the song for at least three seconds. YouTube then processes the audio input, matching it to the song’s unique melody and presenting related videos, including official music videos and user-generated content.
“We’re excited to bring this innovative search method to our users,” said a YouTube spokesperson. “It’s a step forward in making music discovery more intuitive and fun.”
How to Use YouTube Music’s ‘Hum to Search’ Feature:
- Open the YouTube app on your Android smartphone.
- Tap the Search icon located at the top right of the screen.
- Tap the microphone icon next to the search bar to enable the hum-to-search feature.
- Grant YouTube permission to access your microphone.
- Hum, sing, or whistle the melody of the song you want to find.
- YouTube will analyze your audio input and display a list of potential matches.
- Select the desired result to listen to the song or repeat the process if needed.
Currently, this feature is available only to a limited group of Android users as part of a test by Google. The company plans to roll out the feature more broadly based on user feedback and performance.
