The hit ABC drama 9-1-1 is making significant changes to its cast lineup for the upcoming ninth season, with Corinne Massiah and Elijah M Cooper officially promoted to series regulars. Both actors portray the children of Athena Grant (Angela Bassett), with Massiah playing her eldest daughter, May Grant, and Cooper taking on the role of her youngest son, Harry Grant.
The announcement comes as fans continue to process the shocking on-screen death of Bobby Nash (Peter Krause) in Season 8. With Bobby gone, Athena’s storyline in Season 9 is expected to focus more on her family, showcasing deeper connections and emotional moments with her children.
Season 9 will premiere on ABC on October 9, once again following the lives of first responders in Los Angeles, including firefighters, police officers, and dispatchers, as they face high-stakes emergencies and personal challenges.
For Corinne Massiah, this marks a return to full-time status on the series. She first appeared in a recurring role in Season 1 before becoming a series regular from Seasons 2 through 5. After stepping back to recurring status while her character attended USC — mirroring her own time as a full-time sociology student at UCLA — she’s ready to rejoin the main cast after graduating two months ago.
Elijah M Cooper joined 9-1-1 in Season 7 as Harry Grant, replacing the original actor who portrayed the role in earlier seasons. His character was absent in Season 6, as Harry was living with his father. Now, with his promotion, fans can expect more of Harry’s storylines alongside Athena and May.
