India’s women’s cricket team has entered a new era of recognition and excellence after clinching their first ever ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup title with a thrilling victory over South Africa by 52 runs at the DY Patil Stadium. Harmanpreet Kaur lifted the trophy in front of an electrifying crowd marking India’s maiden senior ICC title in the women’s game. The financial milestone is just as remarkable. The prize pool for this edition surged to 13.88 million US dollars a massive leap from the previous 3.5 million US dollars offered in the 2022 World Cup. As champions Team India will take home USD 4.48 million which is nearly INR 40 crore a new benchmark for women’s cricket and on par with major men’s cricket tournaments.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India is also set to provide additional bonuses in support of their commitment to equal pay and recognition for women athletes. Officials have highlighted that the rewards will reflect the historic achievement and the rising status of women’s cricket in India.
This year’s prize money reflects a 239 percent increase compared to the last edition when Australia earned USD 1.32 million for their title win. South Africa as runners up will receive USD 2.24 million while Australia and England will secure USD 1.12 million each for reaching the semifinal stage.
