Tennis Great Issues Warning to Carlos Alcaraz Ahead of ATP Finals as Jannik Sinner Emerges Major Threat

Date:

Carlos Alcaraz is gearing up for the ATP Finals in Turin with pressure to address his struggles on indoor hard courts after a shaky performance at the Paris Masters. The world number one suffered a surprising defeat to Cameron Norrie in his opening match, a contest where he recorded 54 unforced errors and struggled to find consistency under indoor conditions.

Former World No. 1 and multiple-time Grand Slam champion Justine Henin has pointed out that indoor surfaces continue to expose weaknesses in Alcaraz’s otherwise dominant game. She stated that despite his immense talent, indoor courts still pose a real challenge for the Spaniard. According to her, he must adapt better to the environment and handle the demands of a long season during one of the most pressure-filled events on the tennis calendar.

Henin also highlighted that this event has historically not brought out Alcaraz’s best form. With intense fatigue from a packed season and the expectations of finishing strong, she believes overcoming his indoor issues will be crucial. She further warned that Jannik Sinner will be arriving in exceptional shape, adding to the challenge Alcaraz faces in Turin.

Statistically, Alcaraz owns a 68.9 percent win rate on indoor hard courts with a 31-14 career record. This performance level remains below his dominant 81.2 percent career win percentage across all surfaces. Although he claimed a notable ATP 500 title in Rotterdam earlier this year, indoor trophies remain limited in his impressive young career.

This year, Alcaraz has been placed in the Jimmy Connors group alongside Novak Djokovic, Taylor Fritz and Alex de Minaur, ensuring highly competitive matchups from the start. His ATP Finals history includes a forced withdrawal in 2022 due to injury, a semifinal run in 2023 where he lost to Djokovic, and a round-robin exit last year. With expectations high, Turin 2025 presents an important opportunity for him to overcome one of the final gaps in his game and reclaim momentum to close the season strong.
