Apple is gearing up to unveil its own 5G modem in two iPhone models by 2025, marking a shift away from Qualcomm’s technology, which it has relied on for many years. According to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo from TF International Securities, Apple plans to launch the iPhone SE 4 and an ultra-slim iPhone 17 in 2025, both featuring its proprietary 5G modem. This move is part of a phased transition, with Apple aiming to reduce its dependence on outsourced modems gradually.
Kuo’s report indicates that the iPhone SE 4 is expected to debut in the first quarter of 2025, followed by the ultra-slim iPhone 17 in the third quarter of the same year. While these two models will incorporate Apple’s in-house 5G technology, it remains uncertain whether the rest of the iPhone 17 series will continue to use Qualcomm’s 5G modems.
Earlier this year, Apple extended its agreement with Qualcomm until 2026, acknowledging delays in the development of its own modem. Despite this extension, Apple seems committed to transitioning to its proprietary technology. The move to integrate its 5G modem is a significant step towards greater control over its hardware ecosystem.
Meanwhile, speculation about the iPhone 17 Slim suggests it may come with a single rear camera, adding to its sleek design. As Apple continues to innovate and develop its technology, it remains to be seen how the market will respond to these new models.
