Indian football star Gurpreet Singh Sandhu has voiced deep concern over the ongoing uncertainty surrounding the Indian Super League (ISL), which remains suspended amid stalled negotiations between the All India Football Federation (AIFF) and Football Sports Development Limited (FSDL). With the commercial partnership between AIFF and FSDL set to expire in December 2025, the lack of a confirmed future investor has put India’s premier football tournament on hold.
In a heartfelt joint statement shared on social media alongside fellow players Rahul Bheke and Lallianzuala Chhangte, Gurpreet urged the authorities to act swiftly to bring back competitive football in India. “We stand united in our desire to play again. Our anger and frustration have now turned into desperation. This is a call to everyone responsible for Indian football to do whatever it takes to restart the ISL,” he wrote.
The Bengaluru FC goalkeeper described the current state of the sport as a “dark tunnel” and called on officials to “bring back light” to the national football scene. “We are ready and professional, waiting to step back onto the pitch the moment we are allowed. All we ask is for those managing our game to match our desperation with intent,” Gurpreet added.
The deadlock has already taken a toll, with Kerala Blasters, Mohun Bagan Super Giant, and Odisha FC suspending operations. Earlier, Kerala Blasters captain Adrian Luna warned that Indian football was entering an “existential crisis.” Reports indicate that no bids were submitted for ISL’s commercial rights before the November 7 deadline, as potential partners withdrew due to governance and representation concerns.
Fans and players alike continue to urge immediate action from the federation to protect the future of Indian football and ensure that the ISL — a crucial platform for local talent — returns stronger than ever.
